EU ETS for Maritime: What Shipowners Need to Know in 2025

The EU ETS for maritime entered into force in January 2024. Here is what shipowners need to know for 2025.

Key Requirements:

• Phase-in: 70% of emissions covered in 2025 (40% in 2024)
• Voyages: All EU port calls and 50% of EU-third country voyages
• Allowances: Must be surrendered by September 30 annually
• Penalties: €100/tonne for non-compliance
